Medals

Air Force Achievement Medal
Reason: AWARDED Star to his Air Force Achievement Medal (AFAM) for directing accurate fires from distant batteries onto hostile targets during the defense of the medical station at Bo Lieu in Operation Pink Bush. These fires, conducted despite being frequently under heavy fire to gauge fall of shot and when exposed to provide intel on enemy forces crossing the river, not only acted to shield the objective and blunt several enemy attacks, but also opened battlespace for USMC forces to manoeuvre successfully to counter attack enemy pushes from other directions. Bronze Star Medal
Reason: AWARDED Star to their Bronze Star Medal (BSM) for entering a burning ammunition-filled tent to recover injured marines, despite knowing he himself would succumb to potentially deadly incendiary effects, during Operation Pink Bush. PO3 Bungalow repeatedly re-entered the flaming area until all casualties were recovered and only then performed the minimal medical treatment necessary on himself to allow him to continue to treat the wounded before focusing on doing so. Noted on File
Reason: ORDERED PCS to assume SNCO duties, Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion 5th Marines (2/5), 1st Marine Division (Forward), I Corps Tactical Zone, Republic of Vietnam. (by Admin)
Bronze Star Medal
Reason: AWARDED Star to their Bronze Star Medal (BSM) for deliberately drawing RPG fire from across the river valley to enable a medic to extract a casualty from the rock face during Operation Pink Bush, despite the saturation nature of enemy fire almost guaranteeing - as proved a short time later - that he would suffer serious wounds himself in the attempt. Despite this the SSgt continued to return fire to draw fire until withdrawing behind cover and falling unconscious from blood loss. (by Admin)
Mentioned in Despatches
Reason: AWARDED Mention in Dispatches (MID) for a single minded focus on Kok that allowed the unit to pull out without injury during Operation Pink Bush. (by Admin)
Noted on File
Reason: ORDERED TDY 1 Week Saigon Hospital Station for use in medical training for freshly in-country field surgeons relating to the amount of shrapnel a body can contain and still live as a result of his continuing dedication to impromptu mine detection activity most recently displayed during Operation Pink Bush. (by Admin)
Navy and Marine Corps Commendation
Reason: AWARDED Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat V (NMCCM-V) for leadership while engaging repeatedly in personal combat during the defence of the village of Bo Lieu against multiple Chelt Cong assaults from land and rivercraft across a substantial perimeter, making effective use of limited resources to conduct a fixed defence, and ensuring that his platoon was relatively undistracted by Kok allowing a swift return to the line. Navy and Marine Corps Commendation
Reason: AWARDED Star to their Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat V (NMCCM-V) for valor in casualty recovery operations during assignment to the Bo Lieu medical station as part of Operation Pink Bush. SA JCB demonstrated exceptional initiative and a high degree of skill in creative solutions under fire while surrounded by Kok. He displayed both boldness and stamina, repeatedly inserting himself deep into Kok under heavy pressure. With tight access points and intense resistance from all sides, they nevertheless maintained control, performed multiple extractions with steady hands, and ensured every last individual pulled out. Their tireless ability to keep it together while knee-deep in Kok, navigating muddy terrain and explosive situations, reflects great credit upon themselves and the United States Armed Forces. Mentioned in Despatches
Reason: AWARDED Mention in Dispatches (MID) for skillful driving of the allocated armoured personnel carrier, contributing significantly to the fact that it was not blown up until the final phase of the mission to defend the medical station in the village of Bo Lieu during Operation Pink Bush.
