Reason: AWARDED Silver Star Medal (SSM) for single-handed assaulting a heavily defended enemy position with sustained rifle fire and hand grenades in order to draw fire away from his fireteam which was pinned under sustained MMG fire, recieving several wounds yet successfully allowing the assault force to adjust its axis of attack and overwhelm the enemy during intense jungle warfare battles in the Mekong Delta as part of Operation Welfare Hyena.
