Basic Movement

On foot, use the WASD keys to move around. You can also lean left and right with Q and E. Double tapping Q or E will toggle a permanent lean in that direction. Rapidly leaning left, then right, then left again is the 'friendly wiggle' and we use it for a quick visual identifier for friendly troops.

You can choose to sprint by holding SHIFT as you move forwards. You cannot sprint sideways or backwards.

Your movement speed will be affected by the terrain, your stance, weapon position and remaining stamina.

Advanced Movement

Climbing

It is possible to climb or vault over obstacles using SHIFT-V. You may not be able to climb if you are too heavy. It is also possible to climb on top of a team mate this way to get a 'boost' to scale taller obstacles.

Using Ladders

Approach the ladder carefully until you see a white arrow on your screen pointing up or down. Press space or the mouse wheel to get onto the ladder. When on a ladder, W and S will move you up and down.

Rolling

Using Q and E while prone will roll you to the left or right rather than leaning.

Walking

Double tapping C will move you to a combat pace. Double tap C again to resume normal speed. With your weapon at your shoulder, you will move more slowly but the weapon will sway less, particularly useful for CQB. With your weapon lowered, this will conserve more stamina.

Stances

Changing your stance may allow you to use cover more effectively or get a better angle to shoot. It will also affect the amount of stamina you use/regain.

Basic Stances

The three main stances are below. Each command will switch you to the named stance, or, if you’re already in that stance, will return you to the default.

Standing (default)
Crouched / Kneeling - X

Moving in this stance costs more stamina than standing, and is slower

Prone / Lay Down - Z

This is the slowest stance for moving, and costs the most stamina.

Height and Side Adjustments

Each of the main stances has a 'high' version and a 'low' version. To adjust between these, use LEFT CTRL W to increase in height, or LEFT CTRL S to lower. These stances are only available if you have a weapon equipped. Standing (down) is higher than Kneeling (up) and you can go all the way from Lying (down) to Standing (up) by hitting LEFT CTRL W and vice versa.

You can also switch your weapon side from right (default) to left, and lean with your weapon using LEFT CTRL A and LEFT CTRL D.

You can tell if you’re in an advanced stance as your stand indicator in the top right will have an arrow pointing in that direction.

Prone (left) Crouched (leaning right) Standing (leaning right)

Sitting

In briefings you can sit down using ' . You can't move while in this stance.

Forced Stances

  • If you are using a shoulder launched weapon, you can only be standing or crouched. You cannot launch a shoulder launched weapon from the prone position.
  • Providing CPR in the medical menu will move you to a crouched position while in progress. Be aware of this if you are using low cover as you may no longer be behind it.

Stamina

Stamina is indicated by 5 bars at the top right of the screen. When full it’s very hard to see. As it drops it becomes more visible and changes colour.
At 3 bars it starts to become yellow.
By 1 1/2 bars it’s red and you won’t be able to run.

As stamina depletes, your weapon sway will become more pronounced, making it harder to aim. When you run out of stamina you’ll only be able to slow walk.

It can be recovered by resting. How you rest determines recovery speed; stop < crouch < go prone

If you’re moving a long distance and find yourself needing a break to get your stamina back, tell your buddy or squad leader.

Factors Affecting Stamina

  • Loadout weight (the heavier you are, the more your stamina will drop)
  • Stance (standing < crouching < prone)
  • Terrain
  • Health (the more injured you are, the more your stamina is affected)
  • Hunger and Thirst (the hungrier or thirstier you are, the more your stamina goes down)
  • Sprinting uses more stamina than walking
  • Weapon position (weapon slung > weapon pointed down > weapon ready > weapon aimed)

Loadout Weight

Your loadout weight can be found at the bottom of your Inventory (I).Some squad members, such heavy gunners, have a heavier loadout. You may sometimes be asked to help carry some ammo or equipment for them, to help even the loads.

Terrain and Speed

Walking is the default speed in game.

Assuming flat terrain it’s broadly stamina neutral, and you’ll be able to keep going without a pause for a long time. You will lose stamina, but at a much slower rate than running. Moving uphill or downhill, particularly on steep inclines, will use considerably more stamina.

Weapon Position

Weapon Ready (default)
To lower your weapon, double tap CTRL. Stamina loss is reduced, but time to fire is increased.
To sling your weapon, toggle with 0. Stamina loss is lowest, but time to fire is greatly increased.
